energy drinks
Remember the early nineties when JOLT Cola came out?
It was one of those jokey products you would take to a party and (preposterously) dare your friends to drink. Products that were good for a laugh because they were an exaggeration of things we already had or had and didn’t need or couldn’t possibly imagine needing.
But look at us now. Joke’s over, because someone, somewhere in our consumer nation has evolved (or is it de-volved) that cola into the super-hype, must-have ‘5 HOUR ENERGY’.
‘5 HOUR ENERGY’ is everywhere!
It is (according to the hype), just what you need if you’re looking for the quick and simple energy to get you (a hard working employee/student/parent) through the day.
You’ll get everything done, and you’ll get it done with all the alert attention it deserves.
If you drink ‘5 HOUR ENERGY, you will truly be a hard worker (because that’s who it’s made for).
Here’s a taste of the sales blurb from 5hourenergy.com,
"Made for hard working people Finding the energy for work and family responsibilities is hard enough. Throw in a second job, go back to school, or simply have a sleepless night, and you’re bound to hit the wall. So what do you do? Run for the coffee? Grab a soda? But how long does that last before you need more? Try this instead – take one 5-hour ENERGY® shot. It’s quick, simple, and made to help hard working people."
Whew.
Now that is as Hard Working as it gets.
Drinking a drink. Capital H, hard.
But what about this- ?
What about the reported 13 (plus) deaths resulting from your 5 HOUR ENERGY brew?
What about the out-and-out deception of calling it a HEALTH FOOD, encouraged (for example) by regulation of small container energy shots in Canada as Natural Health Products?
This is insanity.
I GET that sometimes it feels as though there are just not enough hours in the day.
But, COME ON !
It’s time for a reset. Time to slow down, look around and think.
It’s time to start asking questions. It’s time.
